MS Australia is celebrating the success of its Queensland chapter in raising more a million dollars for people living with MS in its annual charity bike ride.
Now in its 27th year, “Brissie to the Bay” is the city’s biggest charity bike ride and the largest fundraising event in MS Queensland’s calendar.
This year’s ride attracted more than 5,500 riders, 41 of whom are people living with MS. Together they raised $1,057, 244 to fight MS.
Courses ranged from a family-friendly 10km cycle around the Brisbane River to the popular 100km route, as well as a more challenging 160km course for serious cyclists.
The event’s top individual fundraiser was Charlie Bennet, who raised more than $25,000. Fundraising in support of his wife, Jenny, who lives with MS, Charlie also raised a collective total of $34,530 as part of “Team Jenny”.
Approximately one in every 1,000 people in Australia are living with MS, equating to more than 23,000 Australians and over 3,200 people in Queensland alone. The MS “Brissie to the Bay” bike ride helps to provide vital services across Queensland for people affected by MS and helps bring us closer to finding a cure for MS.
