Thousands of people gathered at an event held by the Polish MS Association last month to enjoy live music and an opportunity to learn more about MS.
The event, held in Żory, featured a “Life with MS” debate followed by a packed-out concert with famous Polish singer Paweł Kukiz, along with two other artists. Several thousand people came to see Kukiz’s performance, after which he took the time to meet a group of people with MS.
Attendees crowded into the lecture theatre for debates held throughout the day, including sessions with neurologist Professor Kotowicz on the causes of MS and ways to manage the condition, a discussion about the link between nutrition and quality of life with MS held by dietician Magdalena Dorko-Wojeciechowka, and a talk about the importance of early diagnosis with Milena Trojanowska, a member of the Association.
Raising awareness
The Polish MS Association holds debates each year in order to encourage greater information-sharing about MS in the country and increase understanding of the impact of MS on those living with the condition as well as their family, friends, community, and wider society. The organisation’s aim is to challenge stereotypes about MS in Polish society and overcome unnecessary barriers for people affected by MS, thereby improving quality of life.
In response to the event’s success, the Association is already planning its next debate, to be held in September.
