People affected by MS across Poland showcased their artistic creations at the Polish MS Society’s fifth annual Abilympics
Last updated: 27th July 2017
The Polish MS Association celebrated the artistic talents of people affected by MS at the Abilympics in Grębiszewo earlier this month.
Now in its fifth year, the Abilympics is one of the biggest and most important events in the Polish MS Society’s calendar and plays an important role in empowering people affected by MS. The name “Abilympics” is a combination of the words “abilities” and “Olympics”, and refers to a competition that promotes the skills of people with disabilities.
Creative expression
Established in 2013, the Polish MS Society’s annual event supports and celebrates the artistic abilities of people with MS, providing an opportunity for those with a passion for creative expression to meet and share their love of the arts. It also gives participants the chance to forget about their condition and simply enjoy creating art with others.
This year, participants arrived from all over Poland to enjoy contests in decoupage, chess, photojournalism, glass painting, as well as a range of brand new competitions, including origami-making and clay-carving. One participant even wrote a poem to mark the occasion.
The event is becoming increasingly popular each year, and with many participants preparing a year in advance, the artistic creations at the event become more and more sophisticated.
This year’s event also included lectures on MS treatments and the role of diet on MS symptoms, offering people with MS a valuable opportunity to learn more about MS.
