‘Young people beyond MS’
Last updated: 18th January 2017
In December 2016 the Italian MS Society (Associazione Italiana Sclerosi Multipla) brought together 400 young people with MS in Rome, Italy. The event #GiovaniOltrelaSM gave people the opportunity to learn about living well with MS and to meet other young people affected by MS.
The programme was decided by a panel of young volunteers. There were talks from neurologists a Question and Answer session and an MS Café where people could mingle and get to know each other. On top of this there were smaller interactive sessions which included pilates classes, information on sex and relationships, information on finance, and dealing with stress. The Saturday night saw a 60s themed disco with an opportunity to party! This was the 6th event of this nature, many people continue to attend every year because the event is so valuable to them!
Sophie Paterson from MSIF attended the conference, she said:
“It was wonderful to see so much energy and enthusiasm at the event. Everyone from the organisers, to the volunteers to the attendees and neurologists was happy to be there. Everyone was learning and making friends.”
