Last updated: 7th January 2016
Research published in the Journal of Neurological Science showed the results of a study carried out to explore the changes in the level of sexual functioning in MS after a period of 3 and 6 years of follow-up. The study also aimed to investigate the predictors of changes in sexual dysfunction during the period of observation.
93 people with MS took part in the study and were assessed at three time points during the study (baseline, and at the 3- and 6-year follow-up).
The number of reported sexual dysfunction symptoms increased markedly for both genders during the whole period of observation. Duration of follow-up, age, level of physical disability, depression and fatigue were identified as other predictive factors for deterioration of sexual functioning in people with MS during the 6-year follow-up.
